Heyy! I know it has been a LONG while since I last wrote on my blog. With completing my final project for grad school, the corporate world’s usual Q4 hustle and bustle, and many other personal reasons, I have not really had a lot of time to sit down and think recently – much less write. Anyway, I’m back now and just in time for the Holidays and ready to give suggestions for some eco-friendly gifts! Whoohoo!
Growing up in the tropical archipelago, you already know I am not much of a winter person. However, I have always loved the Holidays, the coziness, the sentiments, the celebration in many religions, and just the overall sense of gratitude for another fruitful year. Granted, it has not been an easy year for most of us because of the pandemic, natural calamities, and economic downturn, among others. I, personally, have had a tough year. In fact, I am not even sure if I would get to celebrate Christmas with my family and loved ones who are mostly in healthcare.
Okay, self-pity aside (LOL), regardless of whether we get to be with our loved ones physically, I think that we can still send them our love and well-wishes through presents if we are financially able to. So, while I was doing some Holiday shopping this past weekend, I thought of sharing with you some affordable eco-friendly gifts that our family and friends will surely love and find useful. And oh, by the way, I am not paid to write about these products or brands. I have tried most of these products or bought them as presents myself.
I have never really been serious about skincare and makeup until a couple of years ago. Until now, I still do not have a super complicated skincare routine or makeup techniques. What I do know, however, are two things. One, it’s extremely important to find the perfect basic products for what your skin needs, and; two, a lot of the ingredients we put on our faces are not just harmful to us, but also the planet. So, for this blog, I am going to share what I think are the best eco friendly beauty brands for your basic skincare and makeup needs! P.S. I am also making sure that I include brands that ship worldwide!
In today’s new normal brought on by the notorious COVID-19, it is more important than ever to stay safe and healthy. The continuous rise in cases from this deadly virus has pushed many of us to include masks, sanitizers, and disinfectant wipes/sprays in our daily essentials. However, the massive increase in sales of disposable masks and sanitizer containers has led to 75% of these items ending up in landfills or floating in the seas (United Nations, 2020). I must admit that I, myself, have been making a lot of waste from disposable masks, used disinfectant wipes, and even the use of plastic from grocery stores that do not allow bringing of reusable bags. The good news is many brands have developed sustainable items that will keep us protected from Miss ‘Rona. Here are some of my favorite eco-friendly quarantine essentials that you might want to check out the next time you stock up!
Don’t deny it; we all love fast fashion. The extremely cheap and super cute clothes, along with all these promo codes, discounts, and free shipping? It sounds too good to be true. It doesn’t help that our favorite influencers are parading these trendy lines everywhere on social media. It’s always so tempting to purchase more brand-new clothes from fast fashion brands than we need – and I’m not telling you to stop completely. Fast fashion clothes are genuinely convenient, especially when you are on a budget. But similar to fast food, not everything that is convenient is good. While it is definitely challenging to break habits completely, I will try to explain why we should at least limit our fast fashion purchases. When I first read about these reasons, I was also super shook!
When I first started conceptualizing my blog, I initially wanted to focus on petite fashion because of my struggles as a 4’11’’ Filipina here in the US. However, I felt that concentrating on petite styling does not fully encompass who I am as an advocate and a creative. Thus, I decided to also write about one of the social issues that I am most passionate about – sustainability. For this post, I will be writing about my journey as an environmental advocate and my favorite affordable sustainable fashion brands.
